lalala

Today was the mini-orientation type of thing. I went to UMass Worcester, got the big tour, got some free software and my badge and parking pass, and filled out a ton of paperwork (which was often interrupted by my mother who works in HR there... and no, she did NOT pull any strings for me!). I came home and, because I had gotten it for free, wiped out my computer and put Windows 7 on it. It was great! ...but then I realized that my Audio/Visual touch sensor controls don't work, my built-in web cam doesn't work, and the brightness function keys don't work. So now I don't know what to do and I feel like a baby for being a bit upset about it. Alas.

Tomorrow I'll be in Amherst, then Saturday into Sunday will be spent in New Hampshire for a friend's graduation party! Then one day to relax and then off to the full-time internship! hehe, I have my own cubicle, computer, and phone!

Hope you're all well!

Internship!!!!

So... I got the internship at UMass Med (Commonwealth Med, Marketing Analytics)! The day started like this- mom came in, waking me up, telling me that Shaws had called to ask me to come in any time today. I was very sloth-like in getting up, but called Shaws and got a 5 and a half hour shift. Woo.... NAHT. I got ready, went to work, and found that I was covering the self-scan person's shift. Well... this was my first time working there since the beginning of January and I didn't even remember if I had self-scan override numbers. After some ridiculousness, I got my friend's numbers until I could get my own. The day was the usual... somewhat dreadful with a nice person every now and again. It was nearing my break and my phone starting ringing. It was UMass (Worcester). I wouldn't have had enough time to run to the breakroom before it went to voicemail... but my coworker (also a supervisor) told me to GOOOOO and ANSWER IT and THEN my break would start, but this call was more important. And that's when it happened... I got the internship! Only 2 more days at Shaws... the long weekend... and then I start working 40 hours a week.

This is all wonderful!... except for one thing. I thought I would hear from UMass last Friday. I didn't so I emailed my resume to a guy that had a possible internship in Woburn (just over an hour drive). He called me 5 minutes later and was very interested. The pay is better with that one... but... the internship wasn't approved by his company yet and he'd be able to tell me more about it by mid- this week. Alas, UMass called first! And it's WAAAAAAY closer. So I took it, because, as my mum says, it's best to take what's certain and sure than wait and find out the other one won't happen, as awesome as it would be.

Yikes!

Home!

Home! Indeed. Yesterday, after some serious sandwich enjoying at Black Sheep, followed by coffee loving at Starbucks and painful goodbyes, I packed up the Malibu and headed home. My car, which is already writing its obituary, was very angry at me for loading it so heavily and then forcing it to drive up and down hills... with its bum wheel (or something.. we don't really know and are scared to get it checked!). But we made it home. All the stuff taking over the floor space caused a mini freak out... so I spent 4 hours rearranging, cleaning, and reorganizing my whole room. YOWZA! Now it looks awesome, though, and is totally functional. I slept a ridiculously long time today, which I rarely do, and just returned from grocery shopping with the fatherman.

In response to Alice G and Michaela F, I too will post some goals for this blog.
1. Update regularly- I hope to find something to write about on a regular basis. Or at least post some pictures...

2. Take and Post Pictures- I feel like Worcester has a bad rep (and maybe rightly so), but we do have some cool places around here. My friend recently did the same type of thing in her LJ, so I'll probably end up copying a couple of her locations, but it shows a nice side to the city. Plus... I can totally post pics from low-income/ ghettos around here to show both sides.... but definitely only during the day... night is not the safest time haha...

3. FOOD- I love food. Big news. haha, no, but I would like to learn/ experiment with new combinations of flavor.

4. BOOKS- Okay, so I say this every summer, but I really want to read a bunch of books this summer. I have a full bookshelf next to my computer (nicely rearranged and alphabetized as of yesterday) and there are SO MANY books in there that I haven't read but remembering buying or borrowing and thinking "I can't wait to read this!" So maybe I can use this as an inspiration to post about the books I'm reading.

5. Watch Growth- Sounds ridiculous, but I'd like to be able to look back at this and see how I've grown. Kind of like that 365 Days of Photos thing or whatever, but less frequent. This semester was definitely something else, and watching how I'll grow and change as a result of some of the events of this semester could be really great.

Hope you all are well!
