What I'm listening to

In the future, I may look back at this to have a throw-back music day.

Today is Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012. I'm listening to an Ellie Goulding pandora station infused with Florence + the Machine.
Stars by The XX is playing. Definitely an indie meets slower Snow Patrol. When I hear it, I think about fields at night with hay bails and dark blue summer dresses walking between them, finally laying down on a patch of grass to look at the big night sky.

Fisticuffs at Dawn by Little People. If you didn't know that Little People is the band, that first sentence would sound pretty strange.

The Writer by Ellie Goulding. Aside from my Ellie Goulding kick, I find her light, airy music and voice that sounds like it's smiling, refreshing. Nonetheless, this song is deeper than that. It's interesting that writers in music are depicted either as hopeless and searching for words and as ever-powerful beings ("Why don't you be the writer; decide what I sing"). She is asking for help ("why don't you try to help me") from an artist ("make me out of clay") and a writer. All while this is happening, she maintains a breezy tone. That is not often found, and I find it hopeful.

What the Water Gave Me (demo) by Florence + the Machine. Having heard two versions of this song, I think the demo is lacking the raw emotion that is conveyed in the album version. The demo has too much music upstaging her powerful voice. She has also contained her range to a less passionate, almost safer area. The demo isn't taking the chances that give us the powerful range of emotion that the album version offers. I feel like I'm listening to the song and not a part of the song, breathing it and feeling it pumping through me. Now I must go listen to the album version to remember why I love this artist so much.

I've decided to make this into a music blog.

Teenagers never change

While scanning the Facebook realm, I stumbled across this absolutely iconic and yet generic "About Me" section.

I am in love with summer!
I enjoy many things.
Shitting on peoples lives, being on of my favorite!
I can't wait to get a car and drive away from this place im forced to call "home".
I like kick ass music, which includes legitimately everything.
I am FAR from simple. In fact, im quite complex.
But you'll find that im a really cool kid.
Want to get to know me?
Ask for my number.
Im addicted to texting ;)
If not, your loss not mine :)

Hopefully you enjoyed that glimpse into the past (either of yourself or of others you knew) as much as I did.

...yup, that's it...no time for analysis!

Places I've been, Places I've seen

Food of B301

Vinh eats many noodles!

Homemade Pita Chips. I used pita bread that was going stale (and a couple fresher ones), broke them into triangular pieces, added a little oil or butter spray and put in the oven until brownish. On another batch, I added butter and garlic powder! They come out tasting like store-bought pita chips.... but MUCH cheaper!

Vinh made baklava! Filo dough, butter, and walnuts (with a few almonds added). Delicious!

Vinh made banana cupcakes from scratch..and peanut butter frosting from scratch!

Leftovers! American Chop Suey reheated in a sauce pan with a tad of water added, many more spices (mainly garlic and onion powder) and served with homefries (we had TOO many potatoes...so this night was a carb fest) and salad (all ingredients from the Farmer's Market in Amherst!

Champagne to celebrate Rand's awesome MCAT scores! Sliced strawberries and threw those into the glasses which made for a nice appearance and an even better treat at the end!

Lynn made delicious scallion pancakes! Homemade dough, scallions in oil, pressed with a rolling pin (we were sans rolling pin so an empty beer bottle worked well!) and fried in a pan!

New England Coffee's Pumpkin Spice made in a french press and with Very Vanilla Silk mixed in made for a delicious, fall flavor morning! The cool part about the coffee was that it held an orange hue!
